Calcasieu Oyster Permit – September 26, 2011

Oyster harvesters are reminded that the 2011-2012 Calcasieu Oyster Permit application may be submitted beginning September 26, 2011 at 9:00 am. The only submission method will be online. Fishermen are encouraged to view the sample application ahead of time and have necessary information ready to fill in the application. The Cameron Parish Public library system has computers with online capabilities for fishermen who do not have computers. Library branch locations are in Cameron, Grand Chenier, Grand Lake, Johnson Bayou, Lowry and Hackberry. Libraries hours are from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday thru Thursday and 8:00 am to 4 pm Friday. Call your local branch for additional information.

As required by Act 329 of the 2011 Louisiana Legislative Session, anyone seeking to commercially harvest oysters in Lake Calcasieu must have one of 126 special Oyster Harvester Permits issued by LDWF. 

Of the 126 permits available, 63 will be issued exclusively to eligible fishermen who have historically harvested in Lake Calcasieu since January 1, 2001.  The remaining 63 permits will be issued to any person who is otherwise eligible.
