Louisiana Food Processors Conference Set For March
Posted: 1/26/04

The second annual Louisiana Food Processors Conference will be March 3-4, 2004 at the Lod Cook Conference Center and Hotel on the LSU campus. It is sponsored by the LSU AgCenter Department of Food Science, the Louisiana Department of Economic Development, Louisiana Sea Grant and others.

The food processing industry has changed dramatically in the last decade. A major purpose of the conference is to provide information on new regulations in the areas of food safety and security, marketing challenges, global trade, emerging pathogens, federally mandated training, and record keeping.

Plenary sessions featuring national and regional speakers from government and industry will lay the foundation for multiple breakout sessions. For example, the seafood session will include presentations on phosphate and marination technologies, processing waste treatment, and current seafood marketing efforts. Already on the agenda are presentations on the biosecurity act, practical responses to food security for food plants, a visual tour of LSU’s processing pilot plant facility, using television to market foods, a short course on sensory analysis of foods, and rapid microbial analysis techniques.

A Louisiana joint legislative field hearing concerning state needs of food processing industries is tentatively scheduled to be held at the conference business meeting.

This conference is intended for food processors, food processing support and supply industries, state and federal government representatives and others interested in value-added food processing.
