Posted: 8/6/04

The Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries Commission voted unanimously to set the opening date for alligator season as the first Wednesday of September. The season is to remain open for 30 days thereafter. In 2004, opening day will September 1.

According to Noel Kinler, program manager for the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries, "Historical and current information collected by the Department of Wildlife and Fisheries indicate that the optimum time frame for the harvest of alligators is the month of September."
